Rapid Prototyping Workshop with Enterspace
Facilitation, UX
About
A rapid prototyping workshop is a useful co-creating tool that can maximize the little time a client has for you. This workshop was designed to draw insights and expertise from the client while prototyping a tangible outcome to move forward with.
Client and Brief
Enterspace is a startup developing VR experiences taking people to space. They wanted to create a premium VR experience targeted to light gamers and families in malls and amusement parks. We were briefed to design the pregame and postgame user experience. This included prototyping digital solutions to handle ticketing, user flow and souvenirs.
Process
We started the workshop with an IDOARRT to let all the participants know the agenda and purpose of the workshop. We then continued with a quick Check-in to open up the group. Prior to this workshop we had already created clusters of research and turned them into focus topics.
Our first exercise was for everyone to pick their favorite focus topic to ideate around. We had a first 5 minutes of brain-puking which is literally throwing down on post it any ideas no matter how silly or viable they may seem. This was followed by quick sharing and discussion. We did a second round of brainstorming but this time building on each others post-its. After the second round, we then clustered all the ideas into groups and discussed.
The next activity was a storytelling excercise. Each person took their favorite idea and had to start developping their idea by writing a story. Every 5 minutes the participants switched their unfinished stories to the person on their right and continued to write the next person’s story. This was continued until everyone had a chance to add to each idea.
The last exercise involved breaking down everyone into teams of 2-3 people and their task was to take one of the stories and prototype that idea for 30 minutes. This could be in a form of a wireframe, skit, lego building, drawing etc…
We finished the workshop with presenting the prototypes to each other. This was followed by a feedback and reflection session with the client. We identified the strengths and weaknesses of our prototypes. We also briefly discussed value engineering.
Value and Future thinking
The purpose of a rapid prototype workshop is to extract as much expertise and insights from the client in a short amount of time. At the same time injecting our creative ideas and quickly testing them with the client.
The value from such co-creation is that we can have immediate feedback from the client as well as inform them with our expertise and research in future trends. The strengths from the 3 prototypes we presented at the end of the workshop were identified by the client and we used the best features of these prototypes in our final delivery.

My role
I designed and co-facilitated the workshop with another team member. I was responsible of keeping time, engagement, activities and discussions moving towards tangible outcomes and insights. I was also an active participant in all the activities during the workshop.
