About
Grouillots.fr is a website created for French architect Anne-Gaelle Clais that showcases a library of free architecture scalies. Architects can quickly browse through a large selection of architectural assets and download them for use in their projects or buy the complete collection.
Challenge and Brief
With over 5 years of professional experience Anne Gaelle Clais wanted to address a problem she identified in the French architecture market. Architects were still using the same outdated people scalies from 5 years ago. She wanted to offer a updated modern collection of people sketches to include in technical architecture drawings.
The challenge was to create a website to allow users to quickly search through hundreds of images efficiently and quickly download them for usage in many different formats.
Process
I started my process by deciding on the right language and technology that would be best for this project. Taking in the consideration of performance and vast amount of repetitive objects, I decided that Angular JS was the best way to have a one page website that could filter, display, and download hundreds of objects efficiently and perform this without much loading time.
Learning a new framework for a project was a challenge. I spent the early stages of the project prototyping filters and repeaters for the scalies. My main goal was to automate as much of the coding as I could to accommodate the all the objects.
Once I was happy with a filter and display prototype I consulted with Anne-Gaelle and we discussed design and layout. She was in charge of content and I was in responsible for the web design. We worked closely together with daily check-ups and feedback.
Role
Since this project was only two people I had many roles to fill in all stages. In the early stages I had to research and ideate technologies to accomplish the tasks such as filter searches, payment options, displaying many objects. I then had to create prototypes and learn new programming languages such as Angular JS. In the later stages I took on the role of front end developer and worked closely with the designer.
